ZONGOLOPOULOS UMBRELLAS, 7, AVENUE MEGALOU ALEXANDROU, 54640 THESSALONIKI
There are some summer nights that remain unforgettable, and July 22nd promises to be one of them. As part of the Soloists Festival, the most emblematic spot in Thessaloniki, the illuminated Zongolopoulos Umbrellas, are transformed into an open-air, cosmopolitan stage under the stars. At the epicenter, a white grand piano.
Soloist and composer Tasos Sarioglou, dressed in white, becomes one with the stage and unfolds a rare artistic duality: one man, two instruments, a single musical soul. The piano keys and the sensual sound of the saxophone become one, abolishing all boundaries between genres. On this evening, the music flows freely. It is an unpredictable, vibrant blend of musical colors, where his own original compositions organically blend with legendary, world-loved melodies and iconic film soundtracks.
The concept: A game of contrasts without labels. A musical scenario that constantly moves in a cinematic alternation from absolute light to darkness, from nostalgia to ecstasy and from improvisation to melody. The white of the piano against the deep blue of the Thermaikos. An audiovisual experience where instruments alternate, memories from the cinema come to life under the stars and a creator invites us into his own, limitless, musical world.
Tasos Sarioglou | Pianist & Saxophonist
Tasos Sarioglou is a restless performer and composer who balances between the strict charm of classical education and the free world of jazz.
A graduate of the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki (class of Elli Zacharopoulou) and a finalist of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, he has already left his mark in important concert venues, such as the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, while he stood out with his participation in the “New Talents of Classical Music” cycle of the Friends of Music Association.
His multi-faceted identity was shaped through his apprenticeship alongside top masters. In the saxophone and jazz scene, he has collaborated and attended lessons and seminars with Giorgos Kontrafouris, Lefteris Kordis, Ricky Ford, Vasilis Xenopoulos and Christos Digas. At the same time, he developed his piano performance through masterclasses with international personalities such as Ran Dank, Saša Gerželj and Sam Haywood, while the guidance of important pedagogues (N. Intsouaintse, P. Trochopoulos, A. Hadjisymeonidou, K. Tsafis) has been invaluable.
Bridging these two instruments, Tasos Sarioglou presents a completely personal artistic proposal. Through the creation of his own works and the creative subversion of well-known themes, his goal always remains the essential, direct and electrifying communication with the audience.
