Duo 4K features the unusual combination of two polyphonic instruments, the accordion and the piano, through the works of two French composers and friends who lived in Paris in the early 20th century. They perform “The Ox on the Roof,” a colorful collage of milongas, tangos, and Brazilian songs of the time, which Darius Milhaud, fascinated, carried in his memories of his stay in Rio. Francis Poulenc’s Sonata is also included, a characteristic example of the composer’s elegant Mozartian writing. Alongside these, ragtime and tango music parade camouflaged within works by Kagel, Tiensuu, and Nuyts.
