Dimitris Angelakis “Long Way Home”:

An International Jazz Project Inspired by poet Kavafis
Greek-born vibraphonist, composer, educator, and Fulbright alumnus Dimitris Angelakis, who developed his jazz artistry in Philadelphia and Greece, leads a jazz project inspired by
the Greek poet Konstantinos Kavafis, particularly his poem “Ithaca.”
The project blends original compositions—most of which tell a story—reflecting Angelakis’s Greek heritage, travels across the US, China, and Europe, and deep immersion in American
jazz, with interpretations of renowned jazz standards.
Angelakis will be performing with Menios Gounaris (piano), Kimon Karoutzos (bass), and Alekos Spanidis (drums). The project has been featured at festivals including the Corfu
International Festival, Limerick Jazz Festival, and Anopolis Festival.
It has received international recognition, with coverage in the USA (All About Jazz, NPR/ WRTI), the UK (Penitent’s Jazz Radio), Cuba (Radio Havana Cuba), and Greece (Jazz in the
City, ERT).
“Long Way Home is definitely a trip worth taking.” (Kyle Simpler, All About Jazz) “The feeling of the album “Long Way Home” is completely acoustic and
pleasant.” (Manthos Giourtzoglou, Keepjazzin)
